Marius Payton
With the launch of The Mtn. on
September 1, 2006, Marius Payton returned to the region after a two-year
stint with Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic in Washington, D.C. as an
anchor and reporter for
SportsNite and
SportsRise. Payton studied communications at
Westminster College in Utah and initiated his sportscasting career in
Salt Lake City in 1994. Marius worked his way up the ranks to producer
and made his on-air debut during and NCAA tournament when the sports
director lost his voice. His tenure in Salt Lake City gave him the
opportunity to cover the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals, the 2002 NBA All-Star
Game and the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, earning several Emmy Award
nominations for his work. The former weekend sportscaster on KTVX-4, the
ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City, Payton hosts not only The Mtn.'s
lineup of Conference news-oriented programs such as
Mountain Sports Report, but
also many of the network's pre-game, halftime and post game shows and
original programming, such as
Around the Mountain and
Mountain West Football
Saturday.
