The Mtn. - MountainWest Sports Network: Anchors

Bill Doleman

Bill Doleman moved from the broadcast booth to the studio as a network anchor, joining Marius Payton in April 2008 to create an in-studio tandem dedicated to bringing the best in Mountain West news, scores and highlights to viewers.  Doleman had been part of The Mtn.’s football, basketball and volleyball play-by-play teams for the two seasons prior to his move behind the anchor desk, and returns to his play-by-play roots in an expanded role for 2011.  He was a regular on ESPN’s regional coverage of Big 12 Conference men’s basketball for 14 seasons and has performed extensive work for several other conferences as well.  Prior to joining The Mtn. on a full-time basis, he called numerous events for the Mountain West beginning in 2002. A former Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year, Doleman possesses an extensive resume of host and anchor duties, including work for ABC Sports, Fox Sports Net, NCAA Productions, the Big Ten Network, CBS College Sports and the ESPN family of networks.

With the launch of The Mtn. on September 1, 2006, Marius Payton returned to the region after a two-year stint with Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic in Washington, D.C. as an anchor and reporter for SportsNite and SportsRise. Payton studied communications at Westminster College in Utah and initiated his sportscasting career in Salt Lake City in 1994. Marius worked his way up the ranks to producer and made his on-air debut during and NCAA tournament when the sports director lost his voice. His tenure in Salt Lake City gave him the opportunity to cover the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals, the 2002 NBA All-Star Game and the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, earning several Emmy Award nominations for his work. The former weekend sportscaster on KTVX-4, the ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City, Payton hosts not only The Mtn.'s lineup of Conference news-oriented programs such as Mountain Sports Report, but also many of the network's pre-game, halftime and post game shows and original programming, such as Around the Mountain and Mountain West Football Saturday.
