SB: Aztecs Get 3-0 Home Win over UNLV

SAN DIEGO - The UNLV Rebels (28-18 overall, 5-3 MWC) dropped a battle between second-place teams in Mountain West Conference play to the San Diego State Aztecs (28-12, 5-2 MWC) by a 3-0 margin Saturday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. The game was scoreless until late in the contest when SDSU struck for a score in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

The Aztecs broke open the 0-0 contest with help from two bench players in the fifth stanza. Lindsey Marquez stepped up to the plate in a pinch-hitting role and led off with a bunt single. Marquez then moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Jen Wisneski before coming around to score on a pinch-hit double to left by Kamerin May.

SDSU added two insurance tallies in the sixth with help from two hit batters and two singles. Ashley Rose stepped up to the dish with runners on the corners and hit a bloop single to left to push the first score home. Wisneski then stepped up and delivered an RBI-single to left with runners on second and first.

Wagner was saddled with the loss in 5.2 innings of work. She was touched for three runs on six hits. She struck out two and walked two, as well.

UNLV's best scoring opportunity occurred in the third when Tayler Aleman and Paige Emerson opened up the frame following an error and a single, respectively. Unfortunately, SDSU's Samantha Beasley (23-7) was able to record three of her 11 strikeouts to end the threat.

Beasley allowed only three hits on the day, while walking none. In all, she forced the Rebels to leave four on the bases.

Kylie Wagner (10-5) was saddled with the loss in 5.2 innings of work. Wagner was touched for three runs on six hits, while striking out two and walking two.
