BOX SCOREJune 13, 2010Courtesy GoFrogs.comAUSTIN, Texas - TCU earned the first College World Series appearance in school history Sunday with a 4-1 victory over No. 2 seed Texas in the final game of the best-of-three Super Regional.
Kyle Winkler pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory, allowing only five hits while striking out six. Tyler Lockwood, who broke the TCU record for career appearances with his 86th Sunday, pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to record the save.
The Frogs took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning before Aaron Schultz provided some cushion with a big two-run home run off UT closer Chance Ruffin, who had allowed only two homers all season entering Sunday. Bryan Holaday drilled another bomb, this time a solo shot, off Ruffin in the bottom of the eighth inning to put TCU up 4-0.
The Longhorns scored their lone run in the ninth on a Frog throwing error with two outs before Lockwood slammed the door on Texas' CWS hopes.
TCU will open its College World Series run either Saturday or Sunday against Florida State. The Seminoles advanced by holding off Vanderbilt in three games Sunday.
