Longtime BYU track coach Craig Poole has resigned to take a job as head coach for the USA Track and Field resident program at the team’s training center in Chula Vista, Calif.

Poole, who took over BYU’s women’s track program in 1980, has produced 169 All-Americans and 14 of his athletes have won national championships.

Under his guidance, the Cougar track team was a consistent national contender. Since 1983, BYU has won eight High Country Athletic Conference championships, 17 of 18 Western Athletic Conference titles and nine indoor and outdoor championships in the Mountain West Conference.
