Christensen: Back on the TCU Bandwagon
By Todd Christensen, The Mtn. InsiderSeptember 13, 2011Four MW teams remain undefeated. Two of them might be a surprise to some, those being Colorado State and Wyoming. Both will see significant upgrades in their competition - the Rams will match up with their rival Colorado at Sports Authority Field at Mile High while the Cowboys will travel cross-country to face Bowling Green.
Boise State will also be in the Buckeye State to take on Toledo while San Diego State will remain at home to face Washington State. The latter should be a quality measuring stick for the Aztecs as the Pac-12 Cougars have improved markedly and are not the doormats they once were. Just ask UNLV.
Air Force was another of the MW teams that appeared to have a shot at being unblemished at this juncture. With a senior-laden team and a TCU team reeling from a 50-48 upset at the hands of the Baylor Bears, it appeared that this contest in Colorado Springs might go the way of the cadets. Instead, the Frogs showed considerable resolve and not only defeated the Falcons but whipped them in their own backyard by a 35-19 count that was not as close as the score would indicate. There are still some defensive issues for the Frogs but the skill players are alive and well, particularly Casey Pachall, who is doing considerably more than just managing the game.
Under-estimating these Frogs may be done at the peril of future opponents, and that Nov. 12 date with Boise State now sees reprised BCS implications and will continue to grow in importance if both teams continue to win as expected.
