Due to the Academy appointment process, names of recruited student-athletes will not be released until they arrive on campus this summer. Air Force coaches and administrators are not allowed to comment about recruits due to the Privacy Act, therefore head football coach Troy Calhoun is not available to discuss any specifics about recruits.
Many high school student-athletes will participate in signing days and appear to sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with the Air Force Academy, but they are actually signing a Certificate of Intent which is a non-binding agreement that signifies an athlete's commitment to follow through with the appointment process and allows them to participate in signing day for publicity purposes. The Academy is a non-scholarship institution and doesn't use the National Letter of Intent, as most civilian schools do.
"We've had tremendous support from our entire administration and staff with the recent commitments of our recruiting class," Head Coach Troy Calhoun said. "Our coaches work diligently to identify and build excellent rapport with young men who can exceed the standards of the United States Air Force Academy. Our quantity of committed players here at the Air Force Academy may be much lower than what service academies playing an independent schedule choose to pursue; however, we are quite pleased with the quality of this group. We will continue to be very thorough and specific in pinpointing prospective candidates. Each recruit will be bright, a strong student, and of tremendous character. Competitively each of these young men accept the charge of doing what's the most unique in all of college football- playing in one of the nation's strongest conferences while continuing to grow and develop into outstanding leaders for our country."
