Air Force, TCU Win MW Indoor T&F Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Air Force men and TCU women both emerged victorious from the 2012 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico. The Air Force men (156.50 points) won their first-ever Mountain West title, while the TCU women (141 points) took home their second MW crown.

On the men's side, Boise State finished second (154 points), followed by New Mexico (141), TCU (103), Colorado State (64.50) and Wyoming (38). The Lobos finished second on the women's side (116 points), with San Diego State (97), UNLV (88) and Boise State (69) finishing third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Colorado State came in sixth (66), while Air Force (58) and Wyoming (27) rounded out the scoring.

Men's Coach of the Year - Ralph Lindeman, Air Force

Women's Outstanding Performances - Mele Vaisima, Boise State (Weight Throw)
Men's High Point Award - Kurt Felix, Boise State (29.5 points)
Women's High Point Award - Allison Reaser, San Diego State (27.7 points)

2012 MW Indoor Track & Field Championships Notes:

    In the women's 60-meter hurdles, San Diego State sophomore Allison Reaser, who also earned first-place honors in the women's pentathlon, claimed the Aztecs' first-ever title in the event with a final time of 8.48. Junior Larissa Matthews of TCU was second with a time of 8.52 and New Mexico junior Precious Selmon, who won the event at the 2011 Mountain West Championships, came in third with a time of 8.53.

    In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Colorado State sophomore Trevor Brown claimed his second straight title with a final time of 7.90. That mark is the second-best time in MW Championship history and is the Rams' fifth title in the event. Boise State teammates Rolando Trammel and Justin Malnes finished second and third with times of 7.97 and 8.02, respectively.

    TCU junior Chaniqua Corinealdi turned in a MW season-best run of 7.32 in the 60-meter dash to claim her second title in three years. Her win in the event marks the sixth-consecutive year that a Horned Frog has won the title. UNLV junior Emily Blok was second with a final time of 7.42 and TCU freshman Lorraine Ugen was third in 7.50.

    TCU junior Charles Silmon improved on his third-place finish in 2011 and claimed the 2012 60-meter dash title with a final time of 6.72. This marks the sixth title for the Horned Frogs in the event. New Mexico sophomore Beejay Lee was second with a time of 6.78 and TCU sophomore Jefferey Josephs was third with a final of 6.87.

    In the women's mile, New Mexico junior Josephine Moultrie claimed the Lobos' first-ever title in the event with a final time 5:07.80. Teammate Imogen Ainsworth was second, edging out third-place finisher Kelly Dawson of TCU. Ainsworth and Dawson notched times of 5:10.87 and 5:11.02, respectively.

    New Mexico senior Ross Millington ran the second-fastest mile in MW Championship history with a final time of 4:07.23. Millington's win marks New Mexico's second title in three years in the event. Boise State sophomore Drew O'Donoghue was second with a run of 4:09.89. Millington's teammate, sophomore Sam Evans, was third with a time of 4:12.33.

    New Mexico junior Shirley Pitts won UNM's second title in MW history in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 53.89. TCU junior Quinterra Charles was second with a time of 54.26 and Wyoming sophomore Erin Kirby finished third (54.97).

    A pair of Boise State runners took first and second in the men's 400-meter dash. Junior Manoah Wesson took claimed first-place honors with a final time of 47.90 and BSU sophomore Karrie Butler came in second with a time of 47.97. Air Force senior Manny Smith rounded out top three, clocking in at 48.37 for third place.

    Kelsey Williamson of UNLV took first in the women's 800-meter run with a final time of 2:08.52 to claim the Rebels' first-ever title in the event. The time was also a season best for the junior runner and places her first in the conference this season. New Mexico's Josephine Moultrie, who took first in the mile run, ran an impressive 2:09.27 to come in second. Moultrie's time was also a new UNM school record. UNLV senior Brett Zorich was third with a time of 2:10.65.

    New Mexico sophomore Gabe Aragon claimed the Lobos' second title in three years in the 800-meter run with a final time of 1:51.24. A pair of Air Force runners, sophomore Alex Lindsay and senior Nick White took second and third with times of 1:51.46 and 1:51.85, respectively.

    TCU junior Chaniqua Corinealdi medaled once again in the 200-meter dash, clocking a final time of 23.61, which is an NCAA automatic qualifying mark, a season and a conference-best mark for the 2012 season. This is the sixth time in seven years that the Horned Frogs have taken home the title in the event. Emily Blok of UNLV finished second with a time of 23.81 and senior Whitney Gipson of TCU earned third-place accolades with a time of 24.25.

    Charles Silmon of TCU, who also finished first in the 60-meter dash, claimed gold once again in the 200-meter dash. His time of 21.04 is an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and is also second in MW Championship history and third all-time in Mountain West history. This is the third year in a row that the Horned Frogs have won the title in this event. New Mexico freshman Beejay Lee was second clocking a final time of 21.50 and Lavon Collins of TCU was third with a time of 21.55.

    Boise State sophomore Emma Bates took first in the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 9:47.51. Her time places her second in MW championship history. Nicole Peters of Colorado State was second with a final time of 9:49.97 and New Mexico senior Sarah Waldron was third with a final time of 9:53.11.

    Air Force senior Jim Walmsley placed first in the 3,000-meter run with a final time of 8:22.70 to claim the Falcons' fifth straight title in the event. New Mexico junior Sean Stam was second with a time of 8:27.33 and Boise State senior Sawyer Bosch was third with a final time of 8:28.11.

    In the men's triple jump New Mexico junior Floyd Ross earned his first-ever MW title with a final mark of 51'-7.25" (15.73 meters). It also marks New Mexico's first-ever victory in the men's triple jump. Senior Cameron Parker of TCU came in second with a final of 51'-2.25" (15.60 meters) and Kurt Felix of Boise State was third with a mark of 49'-9.75" (15.18 meters).

    In the women's shot put, San Diego State senior Whitney Ashley claimed her first and the Aztecs' first-ever title in the event with a final throw of 54'-9.25" (16.69 meters). Ashley's throws ranks second in MW championship history and third all-time. A pair of Horned Frogs, junior Kelsey Samuels and Megan Smith, took second and third with throws of 50'-6.75" (15.41 meters) and 50'-3.25" (15.32 meters), respectively.

    Air Force junior Cale Simmons won the Falcons' second pole vault title in MW history with a final mark of 17'-5.00" (5.31m). New Mexico sophomore Logan Pflibsen was second with a vault of 17'-1.00" (5.21m) and Air Force freshman Joey Uhle was third with a final mark of 16'-9.25" (5.11m).

    In the men's shot put TCU junior Sean Tabor won the Horned Frogs' first ever title in the event with a final throw of 59'-1.25" (18.01m). Boise State junior Chase Sexton and freshman Will Lohman finished second and third with throws of 58"-1.25" (17.71m) and 55"-4.25" (16.87m), respectively.

    In the high jump Air Force freshman Kobi Rex won the Falcons' first ever crown in the field event with a final jump of 7'-0.25" (2.14m). Teammate Zach Wood finished second with a final jump of 6'-10.25" (2.09m) and Boise State senior Kurt Felix tied for third with Air Force junior Travis Smith. Both had final jumps of 6'-10.25" (2.09m).

    In the women's triple jump San Diego State sophomore Shanieka Thomas improved on her second-place finish from last year and took first with a final jump of 43'-1.75" (13.15m), the title in the Aztecs' second in three years. Air Force sophomore Kassie Gurnell was second with a final mark of 41'-4.25" (12.60m) and Alex Evans of SDSU was third with a final mark of 41'-3.75" (12.59m).

    In the women's 4x400-meter relay, the UNLV team of senior Brett Zorich and juniors Kelsey Williamson, Emily Blok and Secoral Yanez finished first with a final time of 3:39.05. This is the first ever title in this event for the Rebels. The team's time is also second in MW championship history. The TCU team of junior Quinterra Charles, sophomore Briyanni Thomas and freshman Nefertari Hall and Ashley Collins took second with a final time of 3:39.41; coming in third was the New Mexico team composed of senior Rachel Kelchner, juniors Tawsha Brazley and Shirley Pitts and freshman Mickey Brown who turned in a final time of 3:43.61.

    In the final event of the day, the men's 4x400-meter relay, the Air Force team of seniors Manny Smith and Bryce Bergman, junior Anthony Delgado and freshman Jake Spuller came in first for the Falcons' with a final time of 3:10.67, this is the second-straight title in the event for Air Force. The TCU squad of senior OJ Stoneham, sophomores Lavon Collins and Narada Jackson and freshman Joshua Washington was second with a time of 3:12.93. Boise State's Jeff Daw, Paul Robertson, Rolando Trammel and Karrie Butler finished third with a final time of 3:13.31.
