FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs fell behind 4-0 Friday night and saw their rally fall a run short in a 4-3 loss to Oklahoma State. Josh Elander was 3-for-3 with a triple and a home run in the contest.

Andrew Mitchell (0-2) allowed four runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. He walked one and struck out four. Nick Frey twirled 3 2/3 scoreless frames, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out two. Justin Scharf surrendered a hit and fanned two in 1 1/3 innings and Kevin Allen struck out one in 1 1/3 innings.

The Cowboys used the long ball to open up a 4-0 lead on TCU in the first three innings of the ballgame. Gabe Weidenaar put the Pokes up 1-0 with a two-out home run to right in the first and Zach Fish delivered a two-run blast as part of a three-run third inning to stretch the Cowboy lead to four.

The Horned Frogs finally cracked the scoreboard in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a pair of walks. With two on and two out, Davy Wright dumped a single into left field that allowed Zac Jordan to race home with the Frogs' first run of the game.

Frey was brilliant in the middle frames, allowing the Frogs to climb back into the game. Following a lead-off walk in the fourth that was erased on a caught stealing, Frey sat down eight of the last nine batters he faced.

Elander pulled the Frogs within two, lining his first home run of the season over the right field fence to make it a 4-2 game in the sixth inning.

TCU threatened again in the seventh inning. Braden Mattson singled with one out and moved to third on a two-out double from Kyle Von Tungeln. The Cowboys went to the bullpen and called on Chase Stevens to get the final out of the frame.

The Frogs inched closer in the eighth inning as they took advantage of an Elander triple to open the frame. Jordan lined a sacrifice fly to center to make it a 4-3 contest.

TCU would get a two-out walk to Von Tungeln in the ninth, but he would be left on first base as the Cowboys shut the door on the Frogs' comeback.

TCU falls to 2-6 on the season. Game two of the series is set for Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Stefan Crichton will take the mound for the Horned Frogs.
