HOUSTON - BYU senior guard Jimmer Fredette and San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher were among those honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) at the AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game awards show in Houston, Texas. Fredette was named the NABC Division I Player of the Year, while Fisher was tabbed the UPS Division I Coach of the Year.

A consensus first-team All-American, Fredette led the nation with 28.9 points per game and added 4.3 assists per game this season, helping BYU to the winningest season in school history with a 32-5 record and first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance since 1980-81. The 6-2 guard from Glen Falls, N.Y. shattered Danny Ainge's school career scoring mark, finishing his career with 2,599 points after scoring a school-record 1,068 points this season.

Fredette set BYU single-season records with 346 field goals, 124 three-pointers, 252 free throws and 1,323 minutes played in 2010-11. The MWC Player of the Year also owns program career records with 2,599 points, 296 three-pointers, 627 free throws, 139 games played, 30-point games (24), 40-point games (6) and wins played in (112).

In addition to the NABC Player of the Year award, Fredette received a BABC Senrio Achievement Award as an All-America team member who played for four seasons. The recipient of the Naismith, Oscar Robertson and Adolph Rupp trophies and the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award has also garnered National Player of the Year plaudits from the Associated Press, Sporting News, Basketball Times, CBSSports.com and SI.com.

In his 12th year at the helm of the Aztecs, Fisher guided San Diego State to a school- and Mountain West Conference-record 34 wins in 2010-11, including two in the NCAA Tournament, en route to a 34-3 overall mark and a spot in the Sweet 16. SDSU's two NCAA victories were the first in the 41-year Division I history of the program.

Under the direction of Fisher, San Diego State captured a share of the MWC regular-season title before claiming the Mountain West tournament crown, which earned the Aztecs their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth and sixth straight postseason appearance. SDSU entered the 2010-11 campaign having never been ranked in either of the two major college basketball polls, but debuted at No. 25 in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 and remained in the poll for the rest of the season. The Aztecs were ranked in the top 10 in both polls for the final 13 weeks of the season and enjoyed a program-best ranking of No. 4.

In addition to NABC honors, Fisher received the 2010-11 Adolph Rupp Cup and was named Naismith Coach of the Year. He also was tabbed the USBWA District IX Coach of the Year and Mountain West Conference Co-Coach of the Year.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
