NEW YORK – Former Boise State defensive end Tyrone Crawford was selected in the third round of the National Football League Draft Friday, going to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 81 overall.

Boise State’s three selections in the first three rounds are the most in school history, eclipsing last year’s draft when Titus Young and Austin Pettis were selected in the second and third rounds, respectively.

Crawford joins Shea McClellin (Chicago Bears; No. 19 overall) and Doug Martin (Tampa Bay Buccaneers; No. 31 overall) in this year’s draft, with each going in Thursday’s first round.

A first-team All-Mountain West performer and the Broncos’ Outstanding Defensive Lineman in 2011, Crawford led the Broncos with 27.0 tackles-for-loss in his two seasons with the team. He was also named honorable mention All-America by SI.com following his junior season in 2010.

Crawford combined for 76 tackles in his two season, registering 44 in 2011 and 32 in 2010. Included were 13.5 sacks, seven this past season and 6.5 in 2010, second-most on the team each year. He combined for four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, one of which he returned 32 yards for a touchdown against TCU in 2011. Crawford also blocked two kicks, one in each season.

Boise State has now had 12 players drafted in the first three rounds all-time, eight of which have come since Chris Petersen took over as head coach – including each of the four first-rounders.
