MWC receives at-large bid for second straight year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2010 baseball season continues for two Mountain West Conference teams as New Mexico and No. 6 TCU each received invitations to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The MWC tournament champion Horned Frogs earned one of 30 automatic bids, while the Lobos captured one of 34 at-large berths in the 64-team postseason bracket. The Mountain West received an at-large bid for the second straight year and will be one of 10 conferences with multiple representatives in the NCAA Tournament.

Sixth-ranked TCU (46-11) will be making its seventh consecutive postseason appearance after claiming its fifth-straight MWC regular-season crown and fourth MWC Tournament title. The Horned Frogs are slated to host a regional for the second consecutive year, playing host to No. 4 seed and Southland tournament champion Lamar (35-24) on Friday, June 4, at 7 p.m. CT at Lupton Stadium. The first match-up at the Fort Worth Regional will be No. 2 seed Baylor (34-22) squaring off against No. 3 seed Arizona (33-22) at 2 p.m. CT.

New Mexico, competing in its first NCAA Regional since 1962, will be the No. 3 seed in the Fullerton Regional at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, Calif. The Lobos (37-20) will take on No. 2 seed Stanford (31-23), while No. 1 seed Cal State Fullerton (41-15) will host No. 4 seed and Big Ten tournament champion Minnesota (30-28). Game times for the Fullerton Regional will be announced later today.

The national top eight seeds are: 1. Arizona State (47-8), 2. Texas (46-11), 3. Florida (42-15), 4. Coastal Carolina (51-7), 5. Virginia (47-11), 6. UCLA (43-13), 7. Louisville (48-12), 8. Georgia Tech (45-13).

The 16 regional sites, with host institutions and records, are as follows: Arizona State (47-8), Tempe, Ariz.; Arkansas (40-18), Fayetteville, Ark.; Auburn (40-19), Auburn, Ala.; Cal State Fullerton (41-15), Fullerton, Calif.; Coastal Carolina (51-7), Conway, S.C.; Connecticut (47-14), Storrs, Conn.; Florida (42-15), Gainesville, Fla.; Georgia Tech (45-13), Atlanta; Louisville (48-12), Louisville, Ky.; Miami (Florida) (40-17), Coral Gables, Fla.; Oklahoma (44-15), Norman, Okla.; South Carolina (43-15), Columbia, S.C.; Texas (46-11), Austin, Texas; TCU (46-11), Fort Worth, Texas; UCLA (42-13), Los Angeles; Virginia (47-11), Charlottesville, Va.

Each regional field features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. All 16 regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, June 4, to Monday, June 7. Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced on www.ncaa.com on Monday, June 7 at approximately 9 p.m. MT. The 64th Men's College World Series begins play Saturday, June 19, at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
