FORT WORTH, Texas - The Horned Frogs rode a solid pitching performance from Kyle Winkler and finished 17 hits en route to securing a 16-3 victory over Lamar in the second game of the Fort Worth Regional held at Lupton Stadium on Friday evening.

The TCU sophomore allowed one earned run on seven hits over 6.0 innings of action en route to securing his 11th victory of the season. Winkler struck out six hitters and surrendered one walk against the Cardinals.

While Winkler did his part on the mound, it was the TCU offense that put the real pressure on the Cardinals. Down by a 1-0 count in the bottom of the first inning, the Frogs responded by scoring three runs on two hits, which was highlighted by a two-run triple by sophomore Taylor Featherston to give TCU a 3-1 advantage.

Featherston finished the game with a trio of hits to go along with three runs batted in and a pair of runs scored. The TCU sophomore was one of four Frog hitters to finish with three hits in the game.

The Frogs upped their lead to 4-1 in the top of the third inning following a solo home run to left field by junior Joe Weik. The solo shot was the fourth of the season for the Grapevine, Texas, native.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Frogs plated four runs en route to taking an 8-1 lead on the Cardinals. Following a pair of walks to Weik and Featherston to open the frame, Aaron Schultz connected on a single up the middle to score both runners and give the Frogs a 6-1 advantage. Schultz finished the evening with three hits to go along with three runs batted in and two runs scored.

In the following inning, the Frogs exploded for seven runs thanks in large part to four hits to go along with five walks, two hit batters and one fielding error by the Cardinals' defense. Featherston opened up the frame with a single up the middle then stole second and third before scoring on a Schultz single to left field.

With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, the Frogs scored three consecutive runs on a balk and a pair of walks to take a 12-1 lead. The Frogs plated three more runs off of singles by Josh Elander and Featherson to take a 15-1 lead heading into the seventh inning.
Jason Coats and Jantzen Witte each finished with three hits and Josh Elander added a pair of hits to lead the offensive performance.

Matison Smith fell to 10-4 on the season after allowing eight runs - four earned - on nine hits in 4.1 innings of action.

Aaron Buchanan and Andy Mena each finished with three hits to lead the Cardinals.

With the victory, the Frogs improved to 47-11 on the season and will play the University of Arizona on Saturday evening with game time slated for 7:00 p.m. Central Time.

The Cardinals fell to 35-25 on the season and will play Baylor in the elimination game on Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
