AUSTIN, Texas - Three errors in the first five innings led to six unearned runs for Texas as the Longhorns handed TCU a 14-1 loss in the second game of the NCAA Austin Super Regional. The loss snaps the Frogs 11-game winning streak.
Steven Maxwell (11-2) was tagged with the loss after falling victim to a pair of costly Horned Frog errors. In 3 2/3 innings, he surrendered five runs (all unearned) on four hits, walked three and struck out two. Greg Holle was solid in relief as he tossed the final four innings of the ballgame. He allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

TCU had the first opportunity to score a run in the ballgame as Bryan Holaday smoked a one-out double to left field. He moved to third on a wild pitch, but was left stranded.

Texas' first viable scoring threat came in the second inning as they had a pair of one-out singles. Maxwell froze Jonathan Walsh at the plate for out No. 2 and got Jordan Etier to fly out to end the inning.

The wheels came off in the third as Maxwell issued two one-out walks and hit a batter to load the bases. Jerome Pena snared a line drive for the second out and the Frogs looked like they were out of the inning on a ground ball to third, but Jantzen Witte's throw sailed into the stands, allowing two runs to score. Kevin Lusson followed with a two-run double to give Texas a 4-0 lead.

Another unearned run crossed the plate for the Longhorns as they took advantage of a two-out walk to Brandon Loy. A fielding error on a pick-off throw moved Loy to second and he scored on a Tant Shepherd base hit.

Texas unloaded in the fifth inning, picking up seven runs on six hits. The big blow was a three-run double from Cohl Walla and a two-run home run off the bat of Shepherd and the Frogs found themselves in a 12-0 hole.

TCU finally cracked the scoreboard in the eighth inning with a two-out run. Kyle Von Tungeln tripled with two outs and scored on a looping base hit off the bat of Taylor Featherston.

The Longhorns tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth to account for the final score.

The loss drops the Frogs to 50-12 on the season. The teams will play a winner-take-all game three on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 3 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN in HD.
