ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's soccer program has received a NCAA postseason bid for the first time in school history. The Lobos (12-2-5), which advanced to the Mountain West Conference Tournament title game for the third time this past weekend, will travel to South Bend, Ind., for the opening round of NCAA competition. UNM will face the 4th-seed Notre Dame (15-2-2) in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Women's College Cup Friday. The time of the opening round match has yet to be released.
The Lobos celebrated their first-ever selection together Monday afternoon. Friends and family gathered in private reception held locally as they heard "New Mexico" called during the selection show on ESPNU.
Lobo head coach Kit Vela has led the Lobos to an impressive 12-2-5 record, including an undefeated MWC record of 5-0-2. UNM earned its first Mountain West Conference regular-season championship this season.
New Mexico and BYU are the only MWC schools in the field of 64.
The winner of the UNM-Notre Dame match will face the winner of Illinois (13-4-1) and Southern California (12-5-3).

- Went undefeated at home with a record of 6-0 in the UNM Soccer Complex
- Ranked as high as 17th in the Soccer America poll
- Currently ranked No. 32 in NCAA RPI as of Nov. 2
- Defeated No. 8 BYU on Oct. 16, 1-0 in double overtime
- Sophomore goalkeeper Kelli Cornell has allowed only eight goals this season
- The Lobos have not allowed more than one opponent goal per game
- New Mexico's defense is ranked second in Goals-Against Average (0.387) and Save Pct. (0.913) and eighth in Shutout Percentage (0.579)
- Cornell is fourth in NCAA rankings for Save Pct. (0.908) and fifth for Goals Against Average (0.396)
- The Lobos compiled an undefeated streak of 8-0-2 spanning from Sept. 17-Nov. 4
- Head coach Kit Vela was named MWC Coach of the Year
- Cornell was named MWC Defensive Player of the Year
- Junior forward Jennifer Williams was named MWC Offensive Player of the Year
