Wyoming Hires Peter Cuadrado As Head Soccer Coach

LARAMIE, WYOMING - University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman announced Tuesday that Peter Cuadrado has been hired as the head coach for the Cowgirl soccer program.
 
“We are very excited to have Pete lead our soccer program,” Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman said. “He is a highly-successful Division I head coach who brings a lot of experience and excitement to our program. He is a proven winner, who has taken North Dakota State to the NCAA Tournament.”
 
Cuadrado, the fourth head coach in Cowgirl soccer history, joins the program after spending nine seasons at North Dakota State University. He had a very successful career at NDSU, compiling a 93-58-17 (63.5 percent) career record. In 2011, he led the Fighting Sioux to their most wins in school history (15) and a Summit League conference championship. In 2010, Cuadrado led NDSU to a Summit League Tournament Championship and the first round of the NCAA women’s soccer tournament. In the NCAA tournament NDSU tied No. 6-seed Texas A&M, 1-1, before falling in penalty kicks. He also led the Fighting Sioux to two other regular-season Summit League Championships in 2007 and 2009. He was named the Independent Coach of the Year in 2005, while leading NDSU in the transition from an NCAA Division II team to an NCAA Division I team. Throughout his career at NDSU, he coached nine National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Award teams, 21 CoSIDA Academic All-District student-athletes, eight Academic All-Americans and six NSCAA Scholar All-Central Region Student-Athletes.
 
Before NDSU, Cuadrado was an assistant coach at Illinois State from 2001-03, helping lead them to a Missouri Valley Conference Championship. He started his coaching career at Valparaiso University in 2000 helping lead them to the best record in school history. Cuadrado played collegiately at TCU where they achieved a No. 8 national ranking during the 1998 season. He has a National B Soccer Coaching license, National Goalkeeping license and National Youth license.
 
Cuadrado received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from TCU in 2000. He received his master’s in athletic administration from Valparaiso in 2002.
 
“I am excited to join the Wyoming family,” Cuadrado said. “My wife and I really enjoyed our visit to Laramie. We really liked the people and learning what Laramie had to offer us.
 
“I was very impressed with the players that are in the program already, and I am ready to get to work with them. I think the great thing about joining Wyoming soccer at this time is the program is well established, and I want to continue that. My goal here is to win conference championships and make the NCAA Tournament.”
 
The Cowgirls will welcome Cuadrado after concluding the 2011 season with 12 wins, passing the 2003 Cowgirls for the most single-season wins in school history. They also posted a nine-match unbeaten streak, which is the best such streak in school history. The Cowgirls won two games in the 2011 Mountain West Tournament against TCU and San Diego State, which were the first two postseason victories in school history and advanced to the MW Championship match. Individually, redshirt freshman Sara Paul earned MW Freshman of the Year and First Team All-MW honors. Two seniors, Allison Masumiya and Kayla Davis, earned First and Second Team All-MW honors, respectively.
