The Mtn. Celebrates Black History Month 
Jan. 31, 2012CENTENNIAL, Colo. - The Mtn. Celebrates Black History Month in a 30-minute show dedicated to sharing the stories, challenges and contributions of African-American coaches and athletes in the Mountain West. Premiering Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. MT, the show is hosted by The Mtn. network anchor Marius Payton and features four inspiring stories.
First, reporter Molly Sullivan shares the history of UNLV basketball and how the struggles from the past impact current Rebels and college basketball overall. Next, host Marius Payton talks with prominent MW and NCAA coaches and athletes from the "majority perspective" after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination. Then, Jenny Cavnar takes viewers into the life of San Diego State women's volleyball coach Dietre Collins-Parker, who was one of the first African-American Olympic volleyball players. Finally, Curt Jimerson shares his story as the first black basketball player at the University of Wyoming in 1960, recounting his struggles as a black athlete on a white campus.
The Mtn. will also feature six vignettes on other prominent African-American coaches and athletes as well as other feature stories running in various shows throughout February. The Mountain West has a plethora of amazing stories to share as The Mtn. Celebrates Black History Month.
