FORT WORTH, Texas - San Diego State pushed across three first-inning runs and rode them to a 3-0 win over TCU Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Derek Odell and Brett Johnson each tallied a pair of hits in the contest, but the Horned Frogs stranded 12 men on base.

Andrew Mitchell (5-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on four hits. He walked six and struck out nine. Trey Teakell pitched three scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out one.

The Aztecs sent nine men to the plate and pushed across three runs in the first inning. Greg Allen led off the game with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Mitchell quickly got the next two outs, then five straight batters reached base. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases and Jake Romanski put the Aztecs on top 2-0 with a double to right field. Another walk loaded the bases for Tanner Reibenspies, who hit a high chopped on the infield and beat the throw to first to drive in the third run of the inning.

TCU first opportunity to push across runs came in the second inning when Kevin Cron and Derek Odell worked a pair of lead-off walks. Aztec starter Cole Swanson worked out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts and a ground ball to end the inning.

Mitchell settled into a grove and only faced more than three batters in an inning once. In the third, he got a double play ball to end the inning after issuing a one-out walk. Josh Elander erased Evan Potter trying to steal to end fourth inning. A two-out walk in the sixth was left stranded after Brett Johnson got the final out of the inning.

A two-out walk to Jason Coats in the third followed by a base hit by Jantzen Witte had two on, but again, the Aztecs got the out they needed to strand the runners. Similarly in the sixth inning, the Frogs got two on with two out only to see the inning end on a diving play by the third baseman.

The Frogs went to the bullpen with a runner on and nobody out in the seventh inning. Teakell hit the first batter he faced, but then left the runners stranded as he retired the final three batters of the inning to keep the deficit at three.

Johnson twice led off an inning with a base hit but stood stationary as the next three Frogs were retired to end the inning. His second hit of the night came leading off the ninth as the Frogs tried rally.

TCU falls to 33-17 overall and 16-6 in league play. The Frogs will try and even the series Saturday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m. Preston Morrison will get the start for TCU and face the Aztecs' Ryan Doran.
