Mountain West Announces 2011 Volleyball Bracket

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State (19-5, 12-2) won the 2011 Mountain West regular season title and enters the MW Volleyball Championship as the No. 1 seed. The MW Championship will be held at the Johnson Center in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 18-20. It is the first time that the Conference has conducted a postseason tournament since 2007.
San Diego State (17-8, 10-4) earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a 3-0 win over Air Force on Saturday evening and some help from a Wyoming 3-2 win over TCU earlier in the day. TCU (22-6, 9-5) and Wyoming (20-10, 9-5) finished the Conference season tied for third-place in the standings. TCU gains the No. 3 seed in the tourney on the tiebreak, going to the third tiebreak with a 201-198 point differential over No. 4 seed Wyoming.
Host New Mexico (14-13, 6-8) finished the season tied with Boise State (16-14, 6-8) for fifth place. The Lobos hold the tiebreak with a 2-0 series win and will be the No. 5 seed, while the Broncos will be the No. 6 seed in their first MW postseason volleyball tournament. UNLV (12-16, 4-10) will be the No. 7 seed, while Air Force (3-24, 0-14) will be the No. 8 seed.
Quarterfinal matches begin with No. 2 San Diego State and No. 7 UNLV at 12 p.m. MT, followed by No. 3 TCU and No. 6 Boise State at 2:30 p.m. MT. The evening session begins with No. 1 Colorado State against No. 8 Air Force at 6 p.m. MT. No. 4 Wyoming will face host No. 5 New Mexico at 8:30 p.m. in the nightcap. Semifinal matches will be played Saturday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. MT. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be televised on The MountainWest Sports Network (The Mtn. - DirecTV 616) with AnneMarie Anderson and Amy Gant calling the action from the Johnson Center.
The championship final will be Sunday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. MT, televised on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN - DirecTV 613). Jason Knapp and Tammy Blackburn will call the match from courtside at the Johnson Center.
