SAN DIEGO, Calif. -Bryan Holaday and Jantzen Witte each knocked in a run and TCU's pitching staff turned in another strong performance Friday night as the No. 1-seeded Horned Frogs shut out New Mexico 2-0 in the title game of the 2010 Conoco Mountain West Conference Baseball Championship at San Diego State's Tony Gwynn Stadium.

TCU (46-11), ranked No. 6 in the nation by Baseball America, won the Conference tournament crown for the fourth time in five years. The Horned Frogs earned the league's automatic bid and will make their sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

New Mexico (37-20), meanwhile, will await word of a possible at-large bid when the NCAA Tournament pairings are announced on Monday.

Holaday, who was named Most Valuable Player of the championship, gave TCU a 1-0 lead in the first with a double to right after Brance Rivera led off the inning with a single to left.

The Horned Frogs doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the second when Aaron Schultz, aboard on a one-out single, stole second and scored on a base hit up the middle by Witte.

The TCU pitching staff, whose top three starters --- Matt Purke, Kyle Winkler and Steven Maxwell --- are a combined 32-2 on the season, took it from there. Maxwell, the 2010 MWC Pitcher of the Year, scattered six hits and struck out three over six innings.

Maxwell escaped a jam in the top of the sixth when he fanned Lobo first baseman Justin Howard on a high fastball with one out and runners at second and third. Howard leads the nation in hits with 117.

The No. 2-seeded Lobos, who advanced to the title game with a 10-3 win over No. 5 seed UNLV earlier on Friday, stranded seven runners in the contest. New Mexico left the bases loaded in the sixth inning and grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the seventh.
