Second-seeded BYU defeated third-seeded San Diego State, 2-0, in the second semifinal of the 2010 MWC Women's Soccer Championship on Thursday at the SDSU Sports Deck. The Cougars' win ensured that the top-two seeds in the tournament will play for the league crown.

The title game will be streamed live on TheMtn.tv and air via same-day tape delay on The Mtn. at 11 p.m. PT. The contest will also re-air on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. PT.

"It was a tough battle," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "It was hot out here, the conditions were a little bit brutal and San Diego State is a great team, so we had our hands full. I thought our team did a great. I think everybody got the job done today."

BYU's Carlee Payne gave the Cougars an early 1-0 advantage, netting her sixth goal of the season on a breakaway at the 7:07 mark of the first half. Payne tallied a team-high two shots on goal.

Attempting to tie the match on their home field, the Aztecs put together an aggressive offensive attack in the second half. San Diego State fired five shots over the final 45 minutes of action. However, those attempts were unsuccessful as BYU goalkeeper McKinzie Olson made three of her four saves in the second stanza on the way to pitching her eighth shutout of the season.

BYU's Lauren Anderson tacked on another goal for the Cougars in the 77th minute, scoring directly off a corner kick to propel BYU to Saturday's title game.

The Cougars owned a 12-8 shot advantage, while the Aztecs recorded a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
