The Mtn. - MountainWest Sports Network is proud to be a sponsor as the Men's Head Basketball Coaches of the Mountain West Conference host the third annual Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic, May 23-25, benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Fans are invited to join the coaches to help kick off the event with a "Party at the Palms" on Sunday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Palms Casino Resort's Hardwood Suite. Guests will meet coaches from the Mountain West Conference and across the nation. The evening will include cocktails, heavy hors d'ouerves and a silent auction.

Eight of the nine coaches from the Mountain West are scheduled to be at the party including: UNLV's Lon Kruger (www.coachkruger.com ), BYU's Dave Rose, New Mexico's Steve Alford, San Diego State's Steve Fisher, Colorado State's Tim Miles, Utah's Jim Boylen, TCU's Jim Christian & Wyoming's Heath Schroyer. (Air Force's Jeff Reynolds has a previous commitment.)

Following the party, the coaches will be joined by supporters for two days of golf at TPC Summerlin (May 24) and Southern Highlands (May 25). Frank Martin from Kansas State along with other coaches from across the nation will join them as well. The announcement of additional participating coaches will be coming soon.

"Coaches vs. Cancer is a great opportunity for coaches across the nation to become involved with raising awareness and funds to fight cancer," Kruger said. "Our event has grown tremendously during the first two years and we are excited to see its progress in the future."

Party-goers will also have the chance to step onto the court to challenge their favorite coach to a "Hot Shot Basketball Challenge" on the Hardwood Suite's basketball court. Entry fee for the competition is $50 with all proceeds going to help the American Cancer Society's effort to provide free summer camps for children with cancer.

Coaches from across the nation support the Coaches vs. Cancer effort through a variety of local and national events to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer. The effort was started in 1993 when Coaches vs. Cancer was founded by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic is just one of many efforts across the nation in which coaches come together to combine basketball and golf to support a great cause.
