COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second time in league history, the Mountain West Conference will have six teams represented in the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Regionals, announced Monday by the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee.  The six NCAA regional berths tie the Conference record, set in 2007.  The 2009-10 season marks the 10th time in the last 11 years the MWC has sent at least five men’s golf teams to the postseason.

Colorado State earned the MWC’s automatic berth after capturing the Conference championship last week on the Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz.  The Rams will be joined by BYU, New Mexico, San Diego State, TCU and UNLV. Individually, Tom Whitney of Air Force and Gabe Maier of Wyoming were selected to compete in the regional format.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 20-22.  Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals, while the other three sites will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams.  Five teams and the low individual from each regional site will advance to the national championships finals, which will be held June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.  The University of Tennessee, Chattanooga will serve as the host institution for this year's championships.

Colorado State, which is ranked No. 26 in the latest Golfweek standings, enters the Bremerton Regional as the No. 6 seed, tying the highest seed ever attained in the program’s 19-year history.  The Rams also earned a No. 6 seed in last year’s New Jersey Regional, and carded a team-total 896 to finish sixth.  This year’s bid marks CSU’s 14th appearance in an NCAA Regional since 1996, and the 10th in 11 seasons under the guidance of head coach Jamie Bermel.  The University of Washington will host the event at the par 72, 7,104-yard Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.

No. 16 UNLV will be a No. 2 seed at the San Diego Regional, which will be hosted by MWC-member San Diego State at the par 72, 7,360-yard Carlton Oaks Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.  The invitation marks the Rebels’ 22nd straight appearance in an NCAA Regional, which ties with Arizona State and Oklahoma State (1989-2010) for the NCAA record for most consecutive appearances.  UNLV is attempting to advance to the championship finals for the first time since 2006.

No. 21 TCU will participate in the NCAA Regionals for the 21st consecutive year.  The Horned Frogs will play as a No. 5 seed in the College Station Regional, hosted by Texas A&M at the par 72, 7,146-yard Traditions Club in College Station, Texas.  TCU is looking to make its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships, after finishing ninth with a 72-hole total of 873 at the 2009 national tournament.

No. 23 San Diego State earned its 12th straight bid to the NCAA Regionals and will join UNLV in the San Diego Regional.  The Aztecs received the No. 5 seed and will be attempting to make their second NCAA Championship appearance in three years and their 20th national championship qualification in program history.

No. 46 BYU will travel to the Atlanta Regional as a No. 9 seed, and will play at the par 70, 7,182-yard Capital City Club at Crabapple in Atlanta, Ga. The Cougars qualified for NCAA regional action for the first time since 2007, and 18th postseason appearance since 1989.

No. 53 New Mexico will join Colorado State in the Bremerton Regional as the No. 9 seed.  Since the NCAA introduced the current postseason format in 1989, the Lobos have qualified for the regional round every year except for 2008.  New Mexico is looking to make its first NCAA championship finals appearance since 2007.

Individually, Air Force’s Tom Whitney will compete in the San Diego Regional, while Wyoming’s Gabe Maier has been invited to the Bremerton Regional.
