COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Cory Vaughn and New Mexico senior Willy Kesler have been named Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the second career weekly honor for Kesler and first for Vaughn.

Vaughn batted .714 (10-of-14) in the Aztecs' three-game sweep of Air Force over the weekend. The product of Elk Grove, Calif., tallied at least three hits in each of the three games, finishing the series with 11 runs batted in, seven runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, two walks and one stolen base. In Friday's 13-4 opener, he went 3-for-4, hitting singles in each of his first three at-bats with three RBI. He also drew one walk and scored in his final plate appearance. In Saturday's 21-6 decision, Vaughn went 4-for-6 with seven RBI and a run scored, hitting a pair of three-run homers and a two-run double. The seven RBI tied his career high and were one shy of the SDSU single-game record. In Sunday's 17-9 series finale, he went 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored, one double, one walk and one stolen base. For the week, Vaughn posted a 1.286 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage. Defensively, he recorded seven putouts without an error from his position in center field.

Kesler, a native of Thornton, Colo., threw his third complete game of the season in a 3-2 win over eighth-ranked TCU last Saturday. The senior righthander scattered four hits over his nine-inning stint, surrendering two earned runs while striking out nine batters and walking two.
